Co-op has announced the signing of a 10-year franchise agreement with Leeds University Union, which extends the partnership that was first established in 2019.

Leeds Union University was the first on-campus store for the convenience retailer, offering a range of meal deals, hot food, bakery products, coffee and fresh produce to the student and teaching community.

Co-op’s loyalty programme experienced a 15% growth on the campus within the past two years, and the store has also provided work opportunities to over 350 students since its opening in 2019.

Jonathan Perry, head of business development for Co-op Franchise, said: “Our stores are set up to be more than just a shop; they are a hub locally, and by working together we’ve created an evolving proposition focused on serving and supporting the diverse and dynamic campus community.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership to 2036 and excited about the next chapter in our relationship.”

Co-op has expanded its franchised stores across UK universities, with 11 stores now operating. The most recent launches were at Warwick and Lancaster University.

The business plans to grow its locations at campuses, with store openings planned for Birmingham, Leicester and Glasgow universities this year.

Last month the retailer announced it will open 18 new or renovated stores in the first quarter of 2026.
