Tesco acquires five Amazon Fresh sites for Express stores
Tesco has acquired five former Amazon Fresh sites in London as part of its plans to expand by 70 more Express stores before March 2027.
The sites are located in Kensington, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East and Wembley and will reopen as Tesco Express stores ahead of the summer.
This year, the retailer plans to open convenience stores across a wide range of areas and local communities. Tesco is also growing its superstore estate, after the successful openings of sites in North Yorkshire. The Ripon store opened in November and the Harrogate store in December.

Additionally, two larger stores are set to open in Scotland this year, in Pitlochry and Heartlands.
Nick Johnson, Tesco group property director, said: “As one of the UK’s leading retailers, we support jobs and local economies up and down the UK, and as we grow our store network, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to serve even more people in even more communities.
“We are hugely excited about the year ahead and looking forward to meeting our customers where they are with great quality, exceptional value and brilliant customer service.”
According to the business, the new Harrogate superstore has created around 120 jobs and was built using innovative design to lower its environmental impact.
Some of the sustainability features include a timber frame which emits less carbon during construction than steel, eco-friendly solar panels and heating and lighting systems to reduce energy consumption.
