Food brand Crosse & Blackwell is encouraging Brits to experiment with unconventional soup pairings after research found searches for unusual combinations have increased.

The data said over half (53%) of Brits wanted to experiment with weekly lunches, and 39% claimed they would try an unconventional topping if they had seen it during an advert.

Additionally, almost a quarter of those surveyed (24%) wanted to try ‘flaming’ hot crisps on their tomato soup, and 21% named salted popcorn as their preferred topping of choice.

The Crosse & Blackwell research also found 32% said they were most likely to try out an unusual combination on Christmas Day.

Building on this popularity, the brand is exploring three products which combine their classic soups with various flavours, including chocolate and cornflakes.

The potential flavours for the range includes Cornflake Crunch Broc & Stilton, Flaming Hot Tomato Soup and Chocolate Mixed Bean Chilli.

Crosse & Blackwell soup development chef, Ben Jones, said: “Cornflakes on broccoli & Stilton might sound playful, but there’s real flavour science behind it—the toasty crunch cuts through the creaminess, and that hint of sweetness softens Stilton’s bold edge.

“This trend shows that Brits aren’t just experimenting for the fun of it, they’re leaning into combinations that genuinely work. So if you’re curious, trust your taste buds and give these twists a try. They’re unexpected, yes, but each one brings balance, warmth and a little bit of festive comfort to the table.”
