Aldi is set to open 16 new stores across the UK in the next five weeks, as the discounter aims to ramp up its nationwide expansion ahead of the upcoming festive trading period.

The new sites span from Kentish Town in London to Kirkintilloch in Scotland, and form part of Aldi’s £650 million investment programme for 2025, which includes new openings and refurbishments across its 2,000-strong UK estate.

Each new location will employ around 40 staff, creating a total of around 640 jobs, with Aldi also recruiting a further 4,500 seasonal and permanent store colleagues to help meet Christmas demand.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said the openings underscored the retailer’s “pace and ambition” as it continues to expand its footprint and make “affordable, high-quality food accessible to as many people as possible”.

“At Aldi, we’re focused on making affordable, high-quality food accessible to as many people as possible – and opening new stores is at the heart of how we do that,” he said.

“Launching 16 new stores in just over five weeks is a significant milestone for our business and a clear demonstration of the pace and ambition behind our growth plans. It means more communities will benefit from Aldi’s value and choice in the weeks ahead and beyond.”

The move comes as the supermarket giant doubles down on growth plans, committing £1.6bn over the next two years to open around 40 stores annually, cementing its position as the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket.
