Convenience retailer Co-op has announced a series of investments across its store estate, with relaunches in Alvechurch and Greater Manchester and a brand-new store opening in Chichester.

The projects are part of the retailer’s ongoing programme of improvements and new store openings aimed at modernising its estate while supporting local employment and sustainability goals.

The Alvechurch Co-op, in Worcestershire, has reopened following an eight-week transformation programme supporting 12 local jobs. The store now features new flooring, ceilings and refrigeration, reducing energy use while expanding its fresh, chilled and frozen ranges.

Phil Senior, Co-op’s area operations manager, said: “The store looks fantastic, transformed with a fresh new look designed to enhance the customer shopping experience.

“Our focus is on being a hub locally for the community, delivering the quality, choice, value and added services which can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Shoppers can also access home delivery through Deliveroo and Just Eat, as well as PayPoint and soft plastic recycling facilities.

In Woodgate, West Sussex, Co-op has launched its newest store, creating 13 local jobs.

The site includes a bakery, Costa Coffee Express and a full convenience range, alongside parcel collection services via Amazon and DPD and payment services through PayPoint.

Online delivery is available through Just Eat, with Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Co-op’s own online shop (shop.coop.co.uk) to follow shortly.

“The whole team is delighted to invest in Woodgate and launch Co-op’s newest store,” said branch Manager Niamh Cordell.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the community. Our focus is to be a hub locally, delivering quality, choice, value and added services, both in-store and online via our quick commerce partners.”

In Greater Manchester, the Whalley Range Co-op (main image above) has reopened after a month-long refit. The store, which supports 14 local jobs, now includes an in-store bakery, Costa Coffee Express and upgraded refrigeration to improve energy efficiency.

Area Manager Paul Willcox said: “The store looks fantastic, transformed with a fresh new look. We’re enjoying welcoming the community back into their Co-op.

“We’re proud to be part of local community life and to deliver the quality, choice, value and added services which can be enjoyed by everyone.”

All three stores stock Co-op’s extensive range of fresh, Fairtrade and British-sourced products and the retailer continues its commitment to backing British agriculture, ensuring all own-brand fresh and frozen meat, poultry and dairy are 100% British.
