Iceland invites retail workers to join its team amid Sainsbury’s and Morrisons job cuts
Iceland is inviting retail staff and managers to join its team after Sainsbury’s unveiled changes to its operations which will see over 3,000 jobs cut.
Yesterday (23 January), Sainsbury’s is set to shut 61 cafés and close its remaining patisserie, hot food and pizza counters, with over 3,000 jobs to be lost, amid what CEO Simon Roberts called a “particularly challenging cost environment”.
The frozen food retailer has since shared that more than 600 jobs are available across its operations nationwide.
An Iceland spokesperson said: “While many in the retail sector are facing tough decisions, we’re proud to be creating opportunities and expanding our team as we grow across the UK.”

The supermarket has a mixture of full- and part-time positions available, spanning retail staff, home delivery drivers, and management roles at the company’s Head Office in Deeside, North Wales.
The spokesperson continued: “These roles reflect our ongoing commitment to investing in our business, our people, and doing the right thing by all those who make Iceland what it is today. We invite experienced retail staff and talented managers to come and join our team.”
It comes as Iceland, which employs more than 30,000 people nationwide, continues to expand its footprint, currently operating more than 950 stores across the country.
In November, the retailer unveiled a new franchise partnership with independent retailer Alliance that will see new stores open across Jersey and Guernsey over the next year.
