Asda relaunches Euros-inspired ‘Happy to Chat about the game’ initiative

Asda delivery drivers will wear ‘Happy to Chat about the game’ badges, using the Euros as a means to tackle loneliness.

It follows on from Asda’s ‘Happy to Chat’ initiative, which encourages customers to have a quick chat with their delivery driver as their shopping is being delivered.

Centred around the upcoming summer of sports, the updated initative aims to unite customers and sports fans of all ages.

The campaign was first launched by Asda as a trial in November 2020 in partnership with the Royal Voluntary Service and was prompted by the recognition that drivers formed a “lifeline” for some people throughout the Covid pandemic.

A survey found that almost a quarter (23%) of shoppers admitted they were only interacting with people once a week – many of whom were delivery drivers – with the figures showing that the elderly are identified group most in need of support in tackling loneliness.

Asda chief customer officer David Hills said: “We first trialled the Happy to Chat badges as part of the Covid pandemic in 2020 and quickly made them a permanent fixture for our drivers’ to wear.

“This summer, we want to ensure we are keeping the conversations going with our older customers, especially as one of our drivers maybe the only person they interact with that day.

“This badge is a symbol of our colleagues continued friendly and approachable service which can make such a difference to those that don’t have much contact with others. We want to make sure that whether it’s in our stores, at the doorstep or in the community – we’re here for customers this summer.”
