Aldi launches own-label paper gin bottle in supermarket first
Aldi has unveiled the world’s first supermarket own-brand paper gin bottle made from 94% recycled paperboard.
The Greyson’s London Dry Gin is lined with a food-grade pouch to contain the gin, while also being easy-to-carry, shatterproof, recyclable, and five times lighter than a standard glass bottle.
The lightweight paper bottles, made with sustainable packaging firm Frugalpac, will be available to buy from 23 May.

Aldi UK managing director of buying Julie Ashfield said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our well-loved Greyson’s gin in paper packaging – a significant step towards fostering sustainable change.
“The paper bottled wine has been a hit with shoppers and we’re excited to extend this out into the spirits category.”
The new launch forms part of the discount grocer’s wider series of sustainability initiatives, following the introduction of the first own-brand paper wine bottle and own-brand flat recycled PET wine bottle earlier this year.
The move also comes as Aldi is reducing the wine label size across its popular Grapevine range.
Available on bottles in stores now, the labels are FSC certified and made from 100% recycled paper fibre, with the initiative due to roll out across all permanent lines by 2026.
