Aldi sets new fundraising goal as it hits £10m charity target

Aldi has set a new fundraising goal after exceeding its current target of raising £10m for Teenage Cancer Trust.

It marks the second time the supermarket has adjusted its pledge after completing its initial goal of raising £5m by 2027 sooner than anticipated, back in July 2020.

The discounter has now pledged to raise £15m by 2027 for the cancer care and support charity.

Since partnering with Teenage Cancer Trust in 2017, Aldi has supported it through funding 30 specialist nurses, 15 youth support coordinators and four multi-disciplinary team coordinators.

Aldi national sustainability director Liz Fox said: “We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the incredible Aldi colleagues and shoppers who have supported the charity’s vital work.

“We couldn’t have reached this milestone without their help, and we’re now looking forward to raising the bar even further with a new target of £15 million by 2027.”

Teenage Cancer Trust chief executive Kate Collins added: “It is remarkable that Aldi colleagues and shoppers have raised a phenomenal £10 million for Teenage Cancer Trust. Not only this, but we are so grateful that they have pledged to raise another £5 million.

“Their commitment to making sure young people do not face cancer alone is hugely appreciated – and so needed. These vital funds help us to make sure that young people with cancer have the best possible care and support that they need and deserve.”

Last year, several initiatives by the grocery retailer helped to raise funds for the charity.

In March, Aldi group managing directors Dan Ronald and Oliver King, as well as managing director Graham Hetherington looked to raise £100,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust by running the London Marathon dressed as the retailer’s caterpillar cake, Cuthbert.

In July, Aldi also expanded its Super 6 fruit and veg promotional range to Super 7, with a proportion of profits from the seventh item in the range donated to the charity partner.
