Sainsbury’s is predicting a bigger Easter than in 2023 as it has already sold 16m hot cross buns this year – a 62% sales uplift compared to last year.
The supermarket giant is also anticipating that more consumers will look to celebrate the day with a classic Easter roast dinner.
Sainsbury’s has seen a 469% increase on the sale of lamb compared to last year and expects a 386% rise in beef sales.
The grocer also predicts that sales of vegetables will jump 48% compared to 2023.

Sainsbury’s said that at Argos.co.uk, top Easter search terms include ‘Easter decorations, ‘Easter bunny’, and ‘Easter egg’.
While ‘home Easter’ searches have seen a 3,500% uplift compared to last year as shoppers look to decorate their home for the festivities.
It comes as Aldi expects hot cross buns to be one of the most popular products during its “biggest Easter yet” as it predicts sales of around 20m.
The supermarket plans on spending around £8m with British suppliers in the run-up-to Easter, with £4m on fresh meat, fish and meat-free alternatives, and a further £34m on British fruit and vegetables.
Rival discount grocer Lidl is also expecting a surge in shoppers this Easter.
The discounter welcomed nearly 2,000 shoppers per minute on Easter Saturday in 2023, and it anticipates even more people will come through its doors this year.
