Workers at Asda’s Wisbech store are gearing up for strike action this Easter weekend over claims of “cuts to hours” and “an increase in a bullying management culture.”
According to GMB Union, around 170 workers are expected to walk out from 00:01 to 23:59 on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March.
The union said that workers are angry over claims of “poor levels” of training and support for their job roles, the equal pay claim “dragging on for years”, health, safety and fire issues “being ignored,” and “a lack of collective bargaining with GMB”.

GMB regional organiser Keith Dixon said staff are “fighting back and will take to the picket lines this Easter”.
“Asda Wisbech workers are standing up for themselves and this once proud store, which is being left to rot.”
While the Easter weekend marks one of the busiest periods for the grocer, an Asda spokesperson said: “While we are disappointed that the GMB has taken this course of action, we can reassure customers that the Wisbech store will open as usual over the Easter weekend.
“We have taken practical steps in Wisbech to address the points raised by the GMB and will continue to engage with their representatives with the aim of reaching an amicable solution for all parties.”
It comes as Asda faces a third round of strikes as workers at its Lowestoft superstore voted earlier this week to take industrial action over claims of “a litany of issues” including cuts in hours, “poor quality” training, “bullying management”, and health and safety issues “not being addressed”.
