Sainsbury’s and Tesco have joined Aldi and Iceland in slashing prices across infant formula milk products.
From today (7 March), brands including Aptamil, Cow & Gate and SMA will feature in Sainsbury’s latest round of price cuts, Retail Week reported.
The supermarket giant’s own-brand Little Ones range – which includes more than 60 products – has also been added to its Aldi Price Match scheme.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We know families are still finding things tough and we’re working harder than ever to reduce our costs, putting the money back into our customers’ pockets through lower prices on the products they buy most often.”

At Tesco, 1.2kg boxes of Cow & Gate formula will be reduced to £12 and 1.2kg tubs of Aptamil to £16.
The retailer has also reduced the price of 800g tubs of SMA Little Steps infant formula from £9.75 to £7.95.
Tesco chief commercial officer Ashwin Prasad told The Sun: “We’re very focused on reducing the cost of the weekly shop for our customers, and we know that it can be particularly tough for those with young families who have all those additional expenses that come with welcoming a new baby.”
It follows a similar move by Aldi as it slashed the price of its own-brand infant first formula milk for the second time in a week.
Shoppers at the discounter can now buy its own-brand Mamia Infant First Formula at £8.49 for 900g.
Last month, Iceland also cut the cost of SMA’s Little Steps formula milk to £7.95 for 800g in-stores and online.
Meanwhile, Iceland boss Richard Walker is celebrating the success of an “urgent” online petition calling on the government to allow UK families to spend store points and gift cards on infant formula.
The petition, created by formula campaign group Feed, reached more than 100,000 signatures this month and will now be debated in parliament as part of a call to review formula legislation.
