Tesco expands snack aisles with Korean and Japanese ranges

Tesco has launched a new range of Korean and Japanese-style snacks as demand for East Asian flavours continues to grow among UK shoppers.

The supermarket said searches for ‘Korean style’ products on Tesco.com had risen 51 per cent year on year, while searches for ‘Japanese’ were up 16 per cent over the past year.

The new line-up includes crisps, street food-inspired snacks, pouch drinks, mochi-style sweets, biscuits and confectionery.

Tesco said it was the first UK supermarket retailer to launch a number of the products, including Cantabile Korean pouch drinks, Q Mochi and Fini Mini Mochi Gummies, Naemam Molang Heart Gummy, Yum’z Bites jelly and sour sweets, Sugarolly Cotton Candy Rolls, Tokimeki Biscuit Sticks, Oreo Sandwich Biscuits in East Asian-inspired flavours, and Crown Corn Snacks.

The range also includes Calbee Asian-style crisps in Original, Hot & Spicy, Honey Butter, Seaweed, Umami Salt and Korean BBQ flavours, priced at £2 or £1.50 with Clubcard.

Calbee Takoyaki Balls have also been added, offering a crunchy snack inspired by the Japanese street food dish.

Cantabile drinks will be available in flavours including Peach Tea, Mango, Green Grape, Melon, Pomegranate, Blueberry, Black Americano, Vanilla Americano, Hazelnut and Sweet Americano, priced at £1.25 or £1 with Clubcard.

The mochi-style range includes Q Mochi in Chocolate, Strawberry and Lychee, priced at £2.75 or £2.35 with Clubcard, alongside Fini Mini Mochi Gummies in Fruit and Berries, priced at £1.25 or £1 with Clubcard.

Tesco has also introduced Tokimeki Biscuit Sticks in Popping Candy, Blueberry, Almond Crush and Matcha flavours, as well as Oreo Sandwich Biscuits in Matcha, Blueberry & Raspberry, and Grape & Peach.

Crown Chocolate Flavoured Corn Snack and Crown Churros Style Snack will be priced at £2 or £1.50 with Clubcard.

The launch comes as Korean and Japanese-style food and drink products continue to gain traction in UK grocery, driven by social media trends and the growing influence of K-pop, J-pop and East Asian food culture.
