Nomad Foods has published its ninth annual sustainability report, outlining progress against its sourcing, nutrition and operational targets.

The Birds Eye owner, which also owns brands including Ledo, iglo, Findus and Frikom, said its 2025 report showed continued progress under its “Appetite for a Better World” strategy.

The strategy is built around three pillars, covering better sourcing, better nutrition and better operations, with targets aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Nomad Foods, which describes itself as Europe’s leading frozen food company, said the report followed its inclusion in the 2026 Dow Jones Best in Class Index Europe for the fifth consecutive year.

The business said 99.9 per cent of its sourced fish and seafood volumes were MSC or ASC-certified by the end of 2025, up from 99.6 per cent the previous year.

The proportion of sales volume carrying MSC or ASC eco-labelling also rose from 99.3 per cent in 2024 to 99.9 per cent in 2025.

In its vegetable, potato, fruit and fresh herb sourcing, 97 per cent of volumes scored silver or gold on the SAI Farm Sustainability Assessment, up 2.1 percentage points on 2024.

Nomad Foods said 100 per cent of Birds Eye pea growers in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire now hold FSA Silver or Gold status.

The frozen food giant also reported progress across its operations, with absolute greenhouse gas emissions across its legacy business down 41.1 per cent against a 2019 baseline.

The reduction surpassed its Science Based Targets initiative-approved goal of cutting emissions by 25 per cent by 2025.

All 14 of Nomad Foods’ legacy factories have now transitioned to 100 per cent renewable electricity.

The company said the SBTi has also validated its 2050 net-zero target and approved renewed science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets across its operations and supply chain.

Nomad Foods said it narrowly missed its emissions intensity target due to lower production volumes than predicted in 2021, but still delivered an average year-on-year reduction of 6.5 per cent.

The company has also cut edible food waste as a proportion of food production by 27.7 per cent over the past decade, compared with a 2015 baseline, as part of its target to halve food waste by 2030.

In packaging, 95.1 per cent of consumer packaging was recyclable in 2025.

On nutrition, Nomad Foods said 95.9 per cent of branded net sales came from Healthier Meal Choices, while 99.9 per cent of its branded portfolio is now free from artificial flavourings, colourants and taste enhancers.

Nomad Foods head of sustainability David Pettet said: “Our performance in 2025 reflects a strong focus on execution across the business, and highlights the importance of embedding sustainability into everyday decision-making.

“The progress detailed in our 2025 sustainability report is the result of close collaboration across teams, supported by clear targets, robust data and transparent reporting, underpinned by the goodness of frozen food.

“This delivery-led approach ensures our commitments translate into tangible outcomes across our value chain and makes a positive impact on wider society.”

Nomad Foods chief executive Dominic Brisby added: “In my first few months as CEO, I’ve been impressed by the ambition of Nomad Foods’ sustainability commitments.

“Our progress reinforces the critical role of frozen food in building a more resilient and sustainable food system, demonstrating how it is helping to drive meaningful transformation across the industry.”
