Love is in the aisle: What retailers and brands are doing for Valentine’s Day 2024

Grocery Gazette takes a look at some of the products and offers brands and retailers are offering for Valentine’s Day.

Waitrose

Waitrose has unveiled a new ‘Dine-In’ Valentine’s meal range for two.

The £20 range includes starter, main, side and dessert, as well as a bottle of wine or ready-to-pour cocktails. Shoppers will be able to choose from a range of 50 food and drink options, including including British Sirloin Steaks with Garlic and Herb Butter (£10.00), No.1 Parmigiano Reggiano and Truffle Chicken Kyiv (£9.00) and No.1 Beetroot Risotto (£8.50).

Waitrose commercial director Charlotte Di Cello says: “Staying in has never looked so good and we’ve really made this our best Valentine’s Dine-In yet, adding more delicious dishes and drinks for customers to enjoy. We absolutely haven’t compromised on high welfare, quality ingredients, deliciousness and certainly not the wines.

“On top of all this we’re excited to have Moth on board this Valentine’s, serving up bar-quality cocktails without the fuss. Food to feel good about and great value for money too. And as a nation of dog lovers, we’ve added our first exclusive Valentine’s dog treat, with Lily’s Kitchen, so you can show your furry friends a little love too.”

Alongside its Dine-In range, the upmarket grocer has also introduced a Valentine’s limited edition bouquet and biscuit package with Biscuiteers and a £10 truffles and bubbles bundle, featuring a bottle of own-brand prosecco and truffles.

Aldi

Aldi has launched a luxury Valentine’s steak range, with shoppers available to pick up its Specially Selected 100% British Beef Wagyu Sirloin Steak 227g for £6.99.

The discount supermarket has also curated a Valentine’s Menu For Two, consisting of a starter, main and dinner with meat, seafood and vegan options.

Starting from £3.38 per person, stand out dishes include Heart Shaped Garlic Bread (£1.29, 145g) and Specially Selected Heart Shaped Lobster Pasta (£2.99, 250g) and Specially Selected White Chocolate and Raspberry Panna Cotta Twin Pots (£2.49, 2 x 85g).

Aldi shoppers can also choose to add an additional drink, such as Grapevine Sauvignon Blanc (£4.09, 75cl).

The Valentine’s range is available in stores from 9 February

Co-op

Co-op has launched a series of Valentine’s focused product discounts to members this year.

Alongside a Valentine’s-themed new range, Co-op has also launched a Pizza and Prosecco deal for £10.00, with members saving up to £4.45.

Other individual products included in its campaign are Valentine’s Treats like Co-op Irresistible range Strawberry Kisses Cheesecakes  and Chocolate Melting Middle Puddings Twin Pots, both available for £2.50 Members Price.

The retailer has also released a gifting range, with Co-op Valentine Fairtrade Dozen Red Roses Bouquet and Co-op Luxury Chocolate Collection available for a Member Price of £9.00 and £6.00 respectively.

Asda

Asda has revealed a selection of new Valentine’s Day products as the supermarket experienced a surge in searches for the holiday on its website.

Among other items, Asda is selling own-brand Lots of Love Chocolate Coins and Chocolate Love Heart Lollipops for £1 each.

Other sweet treats on offer include Lovely Mini Cupcakes (15 pack, RRP £6), and Billie the Love Bug Cupcakes (RRP £1.50), Love Heart Crumpets and The Sweetest Ring for £1.25 and £1.50 respectively.

For branded favourites, shoppers will also be able to pick up a box of Lindt Raspberry Lindor Chocolates  -on offer for £4.25 – and Terry’s Chocolate Orange Truffles for £3.00.

Elsewhere the supermarket has relaunched its Valentine’s bouquet and sparkling wine range, with flower bunches starting from £2.50 and Prosecco, £5.

Asda is also offering shoppers a 2 for £10 steak deal and a ‘half-and-half’ heart shaped Valentine’s Day pizza.

Tesco

Tesco is championing the value of staying in this midweek Valentine’s Day as it brings back its popular Valentine’s Day Finest Dinner for Two with 27 new and improved products.

Available from 9 February in select stores and online, shoppers can choose from a starter, main, side and desert from £18 with a Tesco Clubcard.

Returning favourites include Tesco Finest Coq Au Vin, Tesco Finest Ranch Steak and Tesco Finest Slow Cooked Duck Legs , while new stand out dishes include the new Tesco Finest Belgian Chocolate Cubes with Raspberry Compote which comprises of chocolate cubes filled with raspberry.

Customers can also buy a £12 deal that features one main, one side one dessert and one drink which include both alcohol and non-alcohol options.

Thorntons

Confectionery brand Thorntons has released a series of Valentine’s themed chocolates to mark the special day.

Alongside its Thorntons Classic (RRP 8.23) and Thorntons Continental (£10.40), both of which are available at all leading supermarkets, the chocolate manufacturer has also unveiled personalised gift boxes.

Personalised Milk Chocolate Lace Heart and Personalised Chocolate Truffles allow shoppers to decorate the sweet treats with a message of their choice. They are available for £15 and £20, respectively.

 

 

Hotel Chocolat

Premium chocolate brand Hotel Chocolat has unveiled a Valentine’s Range comprising of both new and classic sweet treats.

This year, the brand has launched five new products for the holiday, including The Nice Slice – Valentine’s Edition, a fridge cake decorated with caramel-milk chocolate love hearts, available for £16.95.

Shoppers can also choose from  Love Potions Minidomes (£10.95), Raspberry and Peach Ribbon Bags (£6.95) and two new Love Heart Selector in new flavours: Strawberry Mousse and Amaretto, both available for £4.95.

Returning favourites include The With Love H-box (£15.45) Choc, Fizz Collection (£39.95) and its Velvetised Creams range – £23 each.

 

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is spreading the love with a limited-edition heart-shaped doughnut range.

Available 29 January through to Valentine’s Day, the doughnut brands ‘You Colour My World features raspberry flavours while ‘I Love You A-Choco-Lot’ has a chocolate cream and finished with rose frosting, both available from £3.25.

Krispy Kreme, which currently operates over 129 Krispy Kreme retail shops, has in-store cabinets in stores including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons shops.

Haribo

This Valentine’s Day Haribo is bringing back a selection of sweet pieces to the shelves for a limited time only across wholesale, convenience, grocery, discount, and high street stores.

It’s Haribo Heart Throb contain the iconic heart-shaped fruit gum and foam sweet, available for £1.25.

Heart Throbs Mini Dorothy Box (£1.80) contains heart-shaped gummies in a range of colours and flavours, including strawberry, peach, lemon, apple and elderflower, raspberry, and blackcurrant.
