Morrisons and Tesco give away free carrots for Rudolph

Tesco and Morrisons are giving away free carrots in the run-up to Christmas for families to “leave out for Rudolph.”

From 20 to 24 December, Tesco will be offering free carrots at stands at the entrance of 879 larger stores, the Mirror reported.

Free carrots will be available in 496 Morrisons stores from 22 to 24 December, with the supermarket giant giving away ‘wonky’ versions of the vegetable – which are oversized or misshapen, but still good to eat – to reduce food waste.

Morrisons carrot buyer Andy Todd told the publication: “The spirit of giving is what Christmas is all about, and we’re thrilled to help add a little bit of magic to our customers’ celebrations by giving them a delicious wonky carrot to leave out for Rudolph.

“Our tasty wonky range helps our British farmers reduce waste and offer customers a delicious alternative at a fraction of the cost.”

Last year, Morrisons handed out over 175,000 British wonky carrots during the festive initiative.

In October, Aldi launched a Christmas price lock on vegetable items including white potatoes at 15p for 2kg, as well as carrots, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, white cabbage and swede from 19p.

The discounter’s savings saw other festive food staples including a range of whole turkey crowns, pigs in blankets and Christmas puddings staying the same price as they were in 2022.
