Spar bolsters senior team with three new director appointments

Spar UK is bolstering its senior team as it hires three new director appointments to its London central office.

Trudy Hills, Simon Mitchell and Jamie Seymour have been named trading directors for grocery; beer, wine and spirits, fresh and frozen; and Spar brand respectively.

The new directors will play a crucial role in delivering support and service to Spar’s independent retailers and customers, as well as working with suppliers.

Spar UK Food distributors (SFD) chair Nick Bunker said: “We are delighted to congratulate Trudy, Simon and Jamie on their promotions, all of which are a reflection of their continued effort and contribution to the Central Office team.”

The new appointments come amid success this year for the convenience retailer, which helped to drive profit growth at parent company AF Blakemore & Son.

Operating profits surged 65% to £24.4m thanks to the “strong performance” of Spar.

It follows the retailer’s own label launch last year, a customer-focused initiative to grow sales and bring maximum distribution across the entire UK Spar estate.

“Our relentless drive to increase footfall and basket spend for our retailers, to keep prices low for our customers combined with our ability to adapt quickly and bring newness into the convenience sector is resulting in excellent results,” Bunker added.

“Disrupter brands wanting to increase their awareness are looking to us as the route to market and we are excited for the year ahead.”
