Rio Soft Drinks unveils new 1.5-litre bottle with original tropical flavour

Rio Soft Drinks has launched a new 1.5-litre bottle with its original tropical flavour in an effort to tap into the ‘surge’ in popularity for drinks in take home formats.

The soft drinks brand is expanding its existing portfolio as Rio becomes the fastest growing carbonates brand of 2023 – seeing growth of more than 50% over the last two years.

According to the company, 40% of fruit carbonated shoppers buy a 1.5 litre and two litre drink once a week or more, showing that demand for drinks in take home formats is increasing.

Additionally, Rio is also top five ranked SKU in the fruit carbonates category, based on unit rate of sale, and is growing by +29% year-on-year.

The new launch comes as sales of soft drinks in convenience retailers surged by 14.1% throughout last year, delivering the highest value growth of any food and drink category for 2022.

“Considering the rising popularity of take drink home formats, which have grown 13.5% since last year, we felt there was a gap in the market for a 1.5L bottle of our original Rio Tropical flavour,” marketing and international business director at Boost Drinks and Rio, Adrian Hipkiss said.

“Rio is both a drink that can cater to a range of drinking occasions as well as a beverage choice for those looking for a healthier alternative to sugary drinks.

“Packed with flavour and made for sharing, we can’t wait to see how this release performs for our customers and their core consumer groups,” Hipkiss added.
