Deliveroo to trial sales of commemorative newspapers over Coronation weekend

Deliveroo is trialling the sale of commemorative newspapers via its rapid grocery delivery service Deliveroo HOP over this Coronation weekend.

Customers will be able to order a variety of commemorative newspapers direct to their doors in as little as 15 minutes on the day of the Royal Coronation, marking the first time the food delivery service has sold newspapers on it’s app.

The newspapers will be available via Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons and Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose, giving the option to order them alongside a range of over 1,800 groceries, from milk, eggs, bread, fresh fruit, fresh flowers, to party food and prosecco.

According to Deliveroo, it is a “British tradition that big Royal moments are accompanied by newspaper supplement items and pullouts”, which is why it wants to make it easy for people to receive the historic and commemorative papers direct to their doors.

If the trial is successful, Deliveroo claim the sales of newspapers could become a regular feature on the food delivery app.

This comes following the launch of Deliveroo’s latest HOP sites in London, after a surge in demand from customers in the Capital. meaning even more people can access their favourite newspaper on the weekend of the Coronation.

The trial is running from Deliveroo HOP with Morrisons and Deliveroo HOP with Waitrose sites across the country, covering London, Manchester, Cambridge, Brighton and Bristol on 6th May 2023, the day of the coronation ceremony.

“No matter how our customers plan to spend the Coronation weekend, for many people this will be a day they want to look back at in years to come,” VP of Grocery & HOP at Deliveroo, Suzy McClintock said.

“Newspapers are the perfect memorabilia to capture a moment in time, so we’re excited to finally offer them to our customers on-demand through Deliveroo HOP.

“We’re continuously looking for new ways to enhance the customer experience and convenience on Deliveroo and if this trial is successful, we hope to make newspapers a regular feature on the app,” McClintock added.
