Tesco has increased the minimum spend and delivery charge for shoppers ordering their groceries online, starting from today.

The UK’s largest retailer will now start charging an additional £5 if their basket value is less than £50.

Previously, Tesco’s minimum spend was £40 and charged only £4 if the total came to less than that, marking the first change it has made to its online pricing structure in nearly eight years.

Meanwhile, the minimum order fee of £25 for click and collect shoppers will remain the same.

The news was first revealed in March, just before Tesco published its financial results for 2022, revealing that its profits have dropped by 50% from £2 billion to £1 billion for the year.

“To ensure we can continue to serve our online customers as effectively as possible, from May 2 we are making some changes to our minimum basket threshold, the first change we are making in nearly eight years,” a spokesperson told The Mirror.

“For the vast majority of our customers, there will be no change to the way they shop.”

However, it is not the only change Tesco customers will see this year. From 14 June, Clubcard points will only be worth twice their amount when shopping with Tesco Reward Partners.
