Nine in ten Brits have noticed an increase in the cost of groceries over the past few months, new research shows.
According to a recent YouGov poll, the rising price of groceries has been the category affecting the largest group of consumers, in comparison to other areas such as clothes and fuel.
This comes as grocery price inflation rose to 17.1% in the four weeks to 19 February, the highest level ever recorded by Kantar.

However, 85% of Brits agreed that they had also seen an increase in the cost of their home energy bills.
Consumer prices measured by the Consumer Price Index shows that between January 2022 and January 2023, domestic gas prices increased by 129% and domestic electricity prices by 67%.
Over 50% of Brits said they had noticed an increase in the cost of necessities such as fuel and clothes, with 47% experiencing price rises across health or pharmaceutical items, and housing costs for 46%.
In a bid to help shoppers save during the cost-of-living crisis, many of the UK’s leading supermarkets have launched or extended their value ranges such as Asda Just Essentials offerings and Morrisons Savers range.
However, consumer watchdog, Which?’s latest supermarket food and drink tracker found that supermarket value ranges have also risen in price by 21.6%.
