Sainsbury’s launches Nikka Whisky From The Barrel in UK first
Japanese spirits brand Nikka Whisky is making its Sainsbury’s debut with the launch of its acclaimed Nikka Whisky From The Barrel expression.
From this month, the whisky will be available in selected Sainsbury’s stores across the UK and online, significantly expanding Nikka’s grocery presence.
The listing was secured by Nikka Whisky’s UK distributor Speciality Brands.
Sainsbury’s spirits buyer Jack Banks said: “We constantly seek brands that have a strong commitment to quality and we’re very excited to partner with Nikka Whisky for the first time.
“Their iconic Nikka From The Barrel is a great addition to our line-up. The whisky will resonate with the Sainsbury’s shopper looking for strong heritage credentials and its iconic bottle will, no doubt, stand-out on shelves.”
Speciality Brands managing director Chris Seale said the listing marked “another crucial step” in Nikka Whisky’s UK growth.
He added: “This new grocery listing is another crucial step for Nikka Whisky’s evolution and highlights the appeal of Japanese spirits and world whiskies with British drinkers.
“Nikka From The Barrel is already a firm favourite with whisky enthusiasts worldwide and we’re excited to introduce the brand to the Sainsbury’s consumer whilst extending its reach in the UK.”
First launched in 1985, Nikka Whisky From The Barrel is a blended whisky bottled at 51.6 per cent ABV and designed to deliver a rich character.
The expression is known for its small square bottle and minimalist packaging, and can be served neat or used in cocktails.
Nikka Whisky From The Barrel will be sold in a 50cl bottle with an RRP of £48.
