Getir appoints new general manager to lead operations in USA

Getir has appointed its former UK chief Kristof Van Beveren as the general manager of the rapid grocer’s operations in the United States.

Van Beveren joined the rapid delivery firm as deputy general manager UK in December 2021, and was promoted in May last year. Prior to Getir he was CEO and executive chairman of one-time Getir rival Weezy, which he co-founded in 2020.

He said the US general manager role was a new position, and was “incredibly honoured and thrilled to announce” that he had been appointed.

Van Beveren’s UK leadership role is being filled by Christopher Chaaya, who joined Getir earlier this month as the result of Getir’s acquisition of rival Gorillas.

Chaaya had led Gorillas in the UK as general manager since shortly after its arrival in the UK in 2021.

In a public message to his US colleagues, Van Beveren said he was “privileged to lead this team into the future as we build and grow our world-class services nationwide”.

“Combining the best of Getir and Gorillas, we will evolve our proposition, endeavour for flawless delivery, and grow our markets – the opportunity to win is ours,” he added.

Getir in late 2021 announced it was to acquire Weezy, in a move it said “solidifies Getir’s long-term commitment to the UK market”.

In November, the delivery service hit a new milestone by donating over 500,000 meals from its stores.
