Poundland shuts down all Fultons Foods stores

Poundland has closed all Fultons Foods stores as it focuses on rolling out its frozen range across its portfolio of sites.

The discount retailer acquired the frozen food chain in 2020, which at the time had around 80 stores across the north of England and had been supplying Poundland with frozen food products to a select number of stores.

Around ten of the 80 stores have been converted to Poundland sites, with the transformation announced last year that two of these would be Poundland Local convenience stores and three as refurbished and standalone PEP&CO Clothing and Home stores.

However in February 2022, Poundland confirmed that all remaining Fultons Foods stores would be closing.

According to reporting from the Grocer, a trading update from Poundland owner Pepco Group has confirmed that in the year to 30 September, the remaining Fultons Food stores were closed.

This comes as Poundland revealed last month that it is extending its chilled and frozen food ranges across as many as 300 of its stores as it looks to compete with the UK’s supermarket giants.

Set to roll out by autumn 2023, the ‘Project Diamond’ revamp has already hit 350 stores across the UK since the start of the initiative three years ago.

Speaking of the project, Poundland commercial director, Tim Bettley told Retail Focus: “Our ambition is to offer more value in more places through opening relocating and extending new stores and accelerating the rollout of Project Diamond so that customers can find more of what they need close to home.”
