Poundland is extending its chilled and frozen food ranges across as many as 300 of its stores as it looks to compete with the UK’s supermarket giants.
Set to roll out by autumn 2023, the discount retailer’s ‘Project Diamond’ revamp has already hit 350 stores across the UK since the start of the initiative three years ago. Almost all of Poundland’s UK locations will offer the new and extended ranges by the end of September 2023.
Sites featuring the extended offering will also offer £2.50 meal deals which include a selection of sandwiches, snacks and drinks.
“Our ambition is to offer more value in more places through opening relocating and extending new stores and accelerating the rollout of Project Diamond so that customers can find more of what they need close to home,” Poundland commercial director, Tim Bettley told Retail Focus.
“We’re working hard to extend our ranges in new categories such as chilled and frozen food and clothing and to constantly select the items that give customers value for money at a time when they need it the most.”
The next Poundland stores to see the revamp include Port Glasgow, Bloxwich, Swiss Cottage, Perth St Catherine’s and Morecambe.
Two supersize stores are also set to open in December, one as an extension at Denton Crown Point Shopping Park in Manchester and another as a new store at Brotherhood Retail Park in Peterborough, while further store openings are set to be unveiled at the beginning of 2023.
This news follows on from Poundland’s initiative in September which saw its range of £1 products extended to more than 800 UK stores to help shoppers during the cost-of-living crisis.
As a result, it doubled the amount of £1 items on offer including Cadbury Dairy Milk, Gillette Shave Foam, Domestos Bleach and Toilet Duck Pine.
