Asda and its charity The Asda Foundation are set to invest £2.4 million across local charities impacted by the cost-of-living crisis this Christmas.
Supporting 2,000 grassroots groups, this investment comes as the Big 4 grocer has visited five community groups across the UK to help with events or makeovers that were unable to take place due to a lack of funding.
Community group WASPS which previously had no working cooking facilities has since received a new cooker, dishwasher, work surfaces and a redecorated community room with new carpets from Asda.
For groups struggling to meet as a result of rising energy prices, the leading retailer has opened its cafés up as warm meeting spaces on weekdays from 2pm to 6pm through the rest of this month, with each member visiting recieving a free tea or coffee.

In addition to community funding, Asda has invested in ‘in store’ initiatives to help its shoppers combat the cost-of-living crisis.
Since June, its Kids Eat for £1 and OAP Winter Warmer Café £1 deal have hit one millon meals served, with the offers averaging around 50,000 meals a week.
“We have launched these initiatives to support our customers and communities this winter as we know it’s going to be incredibly hard for many people due to rising living costs,” Asda co-owner Mohsin Issa said.
“We have already served more than a million meals through our Kids Eat for £1 and Winter Warmers deals, and we hope that many more families and over 60s will visit in December to take advantage of these offers.
“On top of this, we’ve invested £2.4 million through Asda and the Cost-of-Living grant programme led by Asda’s charity, The Asda Foundation who are support grassroots organisations providing a lifeline in their communities during these tough times.”
