Asda customers have turned to energy-saving products in record numbers to combat rising prices as the cost-of-living crisis continues to intensify.
The supermarket giant has seen a surge in sales of products such as air fryers and slow cookers as customers try to keep energy costs down.
The latest Asda Income Tracker has shown that families were £141 per month worse off in September on average compared to the previous year – primarily due to soaring energy household bills that are stretching family budgets to the limit.
Asda has reportedly seen a 320% increase in air fryer sales year-on-year, sales of slow cookers have more than doubled and sales of heated airers are up 90% compared to last September.
Regionally, families living in the southeast saw the sharpest drop in income with an average of £212 less to spend last month compared to this time last year.
Meanwhile, families in the East Midlands saw the most resilience with an annual decrease of £116 per month – meaning all regions saw reductions in discretionary income.
In response, the Asda Foundation has also launched a new ‘cost of living’ funding pot worth £500k to help keep community groups running.
Additionally, Asda is introducing its new ‘winter warmer’ initiative offering those aged over 60 soup, bread and unlimited hot drinks for £1 throughout November and December in all 205 of its cafes.
This will run alongside the current ‘Kids eat for £1’ offer, with more than 630,000 meals served since the launch in late June.
