Vegan activists pour milk onto floor of Harrods in anti-dairy protest

Vegan activists have received backlash after pouring bottles of milk onto the floor of Harrods in an anti-dairy protest.

Animal Rebellion, an off-shoot of Extinction Rebellion, poured milk out of cartons in the food hall of the Knightbridge department store’s food hall in a protest against the dairy industry – before sharing the footage of the protest on social media.

The group were forcibly removed after covering the luxury store’s tiled floor with milk which they claim was done to highlight the environmental impacts of the dairy industry.

Photos and videos of the incident posted on social media showed a group of around five vegan activists taking bottles of milk from the fridge in the shop’s food hall and pouring them onto the store’s tiled floor in front of customers.

However, their actions did spark hoardes of angry social media reactions from members of the public, who questioned the motivations of the group.

Starting the conversation on Animal Rebellion’s protest on Twitter, one user said: “When self-entitled, Vegan activists enter Harrods to pour milk all over the place, they should be arrested and forced to clean it up.

“Creating more work for cleaners on a low wage doesn’t strike me as the ‘right side of history’.”

Another user added: “This isn’t ‘activism’, this is criminal damage.”

Some online groups have criticised the group’s method of protest for its impact on the low-paid staff who would have been tasked with cleaning up their mess.
