Global vegan ice cream market to hit £850m by 2029

The global vegan ice cream market is predicted to be £846.6 million by 2029, research from Data Bridge has revealed.

The market research company cited the “surging vegan population” and “rising awareness” of animal cruelty as key drivers. Additionally, the health benefits of swapping to dairy alternatives have also pushed demand.

Currently, the most popular vegan flavour is caramel, however, growing demand is likely to see expansion into other varieties including mint chocolate chip.

“Europe is anticipated to deliver potential growth to the vegan ice cream market… Owing to the changing consumer preferences towards healthy lifestyle along with the introduction of new flavours,” the report said.

“Asia-Pacific will score a good growth rate during the forecast period owing to the rising personal disposable income.”

Market leaders for vegan ice cream growth in the UK have been Unilever and Ben & Jerry’s with the latter debuting its Salted Caramel Brownie last year – which marked the sixth vegan flavour to hit the UK market.

The ice cream company previously partnered with activist and football player Colin Kaepernick to launch a vegan flavour ‘Change the Whirled’ which supported the work of Know Your Rights Camp founded to support Black liberation and well-being.

“Made with either almond milk or sunflower butter… They have a creamy, dreamy texture that makes a perfect blank canvas for our Flavour Gurus’ wild creations,” the ice cream brand said.
