Aldi, Iceland and M&S take top spots in consumer awards

M&S, Iceland and Aldi have been awarded the most awards at the annual Good Housekeeping Food Awards this year.

Receiving more awards than any other retailer, M&S took the top spot as favourite supermarket, favourite store cupboard hero brand, favourite premium supermarket range, favourite wine retailer and favourite organic brand.

“Being named the nation’s favourite supermarket is recognition of the great work we’ve achieved but there is still more to do,” M&S chief executive Stuart Machin said.

“We must continue to modernise our store estate and drive forward with our transformation, creating a more digital and omnichannel M&S that offers consistently great quality and value to our customers.”

Frozen food retailer Iceland also received the award for favourite online grocery service, its second consecutive win in this category.

Known for its online initiatives throughout the cost-of-living crisis, including freezing the £1 value range and selling vegetables and everyday essentials for 1p, Iceland is also the only retailer continuing to offer free next day delivery on orders over £40, seven days a week.

Iceland’s chief digital and customer officer David Devany said: “To be recognised in this way for our online offering solidifies our commitment to our customers, especially with our online services.”

“We’re continuing to innovate around our online and delivery options to support customer needs.”

Kellogg’s, Quorn and Yorkshire Tea were also winners in their respective categories and although Aldi won no awards, the discount retailer placed ‘runner up’ in several categories including favourite supermarket, favourite wine retailer and favourite spirit brand.
