John Lewis Partnership creates 150 tech roles to boost online growth

The parent company of Waitrose, John Lewis Partnership, is hiring over 150 roles as part of major investment in digital.

As a result, the company is seeking to recruit engineers across a range of technologies including software, cloud platform, native app, data engineers and delivery leads.

The software engineers and delivery leads will work across both John Lewis and Waitrose as leaders in omnichannel.

According to the company, the new roles will support the growth and development of the Waitrose and John Lewis apps, which account for almost a quarter of sales for the two brands.

Both Waitrose and John Lewis websites attract over 55 million visits each month, with onlines sales now contributing to almost 70% of John Lewis sales and nearly a fifth of Waitrose sales – up from 40% and 5% respectively just two years ago.

“We have an industry leading team driving the digital growth of our two iconic brands, Waitrose and John Lewis,” John Lewis Partnership head of engineering Sandra Christie said.

“It’s our partners who make the difference and we’re really excited to be making this significant investment in growing our engineering talent.”
