Tesco to give workers a 5.8% pay rise from July

Tesco has announced a new pay deal for its employees that sees hourly pay for its in-store and depot staff members increase 5.8% from £9.55 to £10.10 from July 2022.

The news comes after the supermarket giant reached an agreement with retail trade union Usdaw, which sees Tesco invest in its colleagues’ pay, benefits and skills.

The new agreement sees the Big 4 grocer provide a new range of benefits including an extension of Tesco’s staff discount allowance, new training, more access to wellbeing support services and potential access to more hours.

The announcement comes amid pressure on employers to help boost incomes for workers in the face of a cost of living crisis.

“We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Usdaw that recognises the vital role our colleagues play in our business now and in the future, giving them a well-deserved pay rise, more access to extra hours and setting out a long-term commitment and investment in their careers at Tesco,” Tesco UK and ROI chief executive Jason Tarry said.

“These investments in our colleagues are central to making Tesco what we truly want it to be: a great place to work for all. A place that attracts and retains the best talent in the industry.”

Usdaw national officer Daniel Adams added: “The pay deal is testament to the hard work of Usdaw members within Tesco throughout the last 12 months and the commitment and dedication of our Reps who were involved in negotiating the deal.”
