Morrisons saves half a million Magic Bags from going to waste

Morrisons partnership with Too Good to Go has saved half a million Magic Bags of food going to waste.

The milestone comes two and a half years after Morrisons became the first supermarket partner of Too Good To Go.

As a result of the partnership, food, which has hit its best before date, is packaged into Too Good To Go Magic Bags, which are available to purchase from the Big 4 grocer.

The announcement means that since the start of the partnership in October 2019, consumers have rescued 500 tonnes of food from going to waste.

The partnership has also saved 1,250 tonnes of CO2e, according to the surplus food provider.

“Our farmers, growers and suppliers spend many hours making good food. And we don’t want to see any of it go to waste – especially when it could be on someone’s table and feeding a family,” Morrisons corporate services manager of sustainability Luke Wellock said.

“Too Good to Go’s technology and their Magic Bags have helped us to find a home for food which could be wasted – whilst at the same time enabling more people to afford to eat well.”

Too Good To Go UK managing director Paschalis Loucaide added: “Since launching back in October 2019, our partnership with Morrisons has gone from strength to strength. Their commitment to fighting food waste has meant that they are the perfect partner for us and we’re thrilled that together we are having such a great impact. ”
