Sainsbury’s Bank has apologised to customers as many faced an incorrect £12 charge for late payments on 2 January.

As a result, the retailer has urged its credit card customers to check their statements to find out if they  have been charged late payment fees by mistake.

Sainsbury’s Bank credit card users can view their statements using online banking or via its bank credit card app.

Those who received the incorrect charge, should get refunds automatically, when letting the bank know about the charge, MoneySavingExpert reported.

However, one Sainsbury’s bank user said they had been told by the bank that refunds would only be given to those who told the bank they had been overcharged.

A Sainsbury’s Bank spokesperson said, “We are investigating a small number of customers who have been charged late payment fees incorrectly. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and are automatically refunding customers to put this right.”
