Ex-Morrisons boss joins Starship Technologies

The UK competition regulator has launched an initial investigation into the takeover of Morrisons by US private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R).

Former Morrisons boss Dalton Philips has joined autonomous delivery services company Starship Technologies.  

In a social media post, the company welcomed Philips to the role. 

The statement said: “We are delighted to announce retail industry veteran Dalton Philips has joined our board of directors.  

“Dalton brings industry leading experience and will play an important role in helping Starship strengthen its position as the market leader in autonomous delivery.” 

Philips worked as the chief executive at Morrisons between March 2010 and February 2015.

He is currently the chief executive at Daa and holds the position of chairman at Rethink Ireland and non-executive director at Wilko.  

He was also a non-executive director for The Ridgeons Group, Byron and One51.  

Prior to this, his work experience includes time spent as a chief executive at the Brown Thomas Group, Loblaw and a term as chief operation officer at Walmart Germany and Walmart Brazil.  

“Dalton brings an enormous amount of retail experience and nous to Starship,” Starship Technologies co-founder and chief technology officer Ahti Heinla told Retail Technology Innovation Hub. 

“He understands the customer, and critically he understands the challenges needed to succeed in the last mile delivery space. 

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him join our board and leverage his vast experience as we continue in our quest to make Starship the global leader in last mile delivery.”
