Saputo has acquired UK-based vegan cheese maker Bute Island Foods for an undisclosed sum.
Located in Scotland, Bute produces dairy alternative cheese produce for retail and foodservice markets under its ‘Sheese’ brand.
The company employs 180 staff members at its facilities, including its founders.

“This investment marks an important milestone that will allow us to accelerate our growth in this area globally, putting innovation at the forefront of our policies.”
The acquisition of Bute Island Foods is Saputo’s latest move to expand its presence in the alternative dairy product sector in the UK.
In 2019, the company also bought out UK-based dairy companies Cathedral City and Dairy Crest for £975 million.
