Sainsbury’s launches new rewards for fruit & veg purchases

Sainsbury’s has launched its new bonus rewards scheme to encourage shoppers to buy more fruit and vegetables.

From 1 June to 28, the Big 4 retailer revealed its customers can earn bonus Nectar points for purchasing fruit and vegetables in its stores.

The move follows Sainsbury’s recently announcing it will retire its “Live Well for Less” motto after a decade.

Instead, the grocery revealed its motto will now be replaced with a new brand commitment to help “Everyone Eat Better”.

Under the new scheme, shippers will be rewarded with bonuses for reaching personal targets, which are based on the average number of portions of fruit and vegetables in their typical weekly shop.

Through its in-app tracker, customers will earn points throughout the month as they head towards their total target.

Each customer will have the potential to earn over 750 points.

They will also have the chance to collect up to eight product badges by ordering several portions of specific produce.

“As part of our new brand commitment to Help Everyone Eat Better, we are bringing back The Great Big Fruit and Veg Challenge and giving customers the opportunity to earn bonus Nectar points when they purchase fruit and veg throughout June,” Sainsbury’s chief marketing officer, Mark Given said.

“We hope that by participating in the challenge, customers are inspired to pack in more nutritious food while getting more out of their points balance.

“As a supermarket serving communities across the country, we have a responsibility to encourage our customers to eat delicious food that is healthier for people and better for the planet, and the challenge is one of the many ways we are doing this.”
