Asda Wisbech workers have called off their upcoming strike as the GMB union announces it is reconsidering the supermarkets’s offer to speak to the ACAS.

The industrial action was set to take place tomorrow, Friday 2 August, after claims of a “litany of issues”, ranging from cuts in hours to unresolved health and safety issues.

It would have been the second time workers at the grocer’s Wisbech store have walked out this year, having previously gone on strike over the Easter weekend.

However, the GMB Union has now agreed to ACAS talks, which Asda first proposed Monday, as it reopens negotiations with the supermarket giant.

An Asda spokesperson said: “Industrial action only ever serves to harm our colleagues, customers, and community so we are pleased that the GMB have agreed to the proposal we made at the start of the week to meet with us at ACAS. We will now meet with their representatives to discuss their concerns.”
