Ocean Spray refreshes the Cosmopolitan with new cranberry serve

News

Ocean Spray has launched a new range of Cosmopolitan recipes as it looks to tap into renewed consumer interest in classic cocktails with a modern twist.

The cranberry juice brand has partnered with mixologist Ed To and Table Manners podcaster Lennie Ware to create four new takes on the Cosmopolitan, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions.

The move comes as Ocean Spray looks to capitalise on the ongoing “newstalgia” trend, where familiar flavours and cultural references are being reworked for modern consumers.

According to research from the brand, 38 per cent of UK consumers said they enjoy trying modern twists on classic cocktails, while 43 per cent agreed that more classic cocktails should be brought back into fashion. A further 42 per cent said they would like to see more bars, pubs and restaurants offering classic cocktails, or updated versions of them, on menus.

The new serves include The Cosmo Hold Up, a short cocktail made with citrus vodka, Aperol, Ocean Spray cranberry juice, lime juice and passionfruit syrup, as well as Cosmo Berry Blush, a longer serve combining citrus vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice, lime, elderflower syrup, muddled berries and soda water.

Both drinks have also been developed as mocktails, as Ocean Spray looks to appeal to a broader range of drinking occasions, including consumers cutting down on alcohol or seeking more sophisticated soft drinks.

Ocean Spray marketing director Zoe Trimble said the Cosmopolitan “holds a special place in culture” and said the brand saw an opportunity to reintroduce it to a new generation of drinkers.

“Ed’s vision for these new serves with Ocean Spray cranberry juice showcases just how versatile the Cosmo can be,” she said.

“The new recipes will be shared across Ocean Spray’s digital channels, in-store, on pack and via partner platforms, encouraging both on-trade venues and at-home consumers to rediscover the Cosmopolitan this summer.”

The Cosmopolitan first became a mainstream cocktail staple in the 1990s, boosted by its association with Sex and the City, although the drink’s history dates back much further.

Lennie Ware, who helped select the final recipes, said: “I’ve always loved a Cosmopolitan and always make sure to have one wherever I am. It’s a true classic and the perfect cocktail for me.

“These new twists for 2026 are a brilliant way to bring the drink back into the spotlight.”

Mixologist Ed To added that the aim was to “respect the original while introducing flavour combinations that feel relevant to how people are drinking today”.

The final serves were selected following a focus group involving Ocean Spray, Ware and industry insiders, with recipes assessed on taste, visual appeal and how closely they stayed to the character of the original Cosmopolitan.

The campaign will be supported by social content from To, activity across Table Manners social channels, and promotion via Ocean Spray’s Instagram account.
