Costa Coffee and Sainsbury’s have reached a major milestone in their partnership with the opening of a 50th café in a supermarket.

The Costa Coffee store is located in Leicester North Superstore and officially opened on 30 April, which marks a significant move in the brand’s expansion at the retailer.

The outlet in the Leicester North store features Costa Coffee’s drinks range alongside a selection of food and freshly baked pastries.

The opening builds on the success of the collaboration between the two brands, which first launched in 2024 with the goal of bringing convenient and quality coffee for shoppers.

According to the business, the partnership has created over 400 jobs in local communities and has a combined investment of nearly £16m.

Sainsbury’s head of food-to-go & partnerships, Richard Murrell, said: “I’m delighted to see how our partnership with Costa Coffee has grown. From opening the first store inside Sainsbury’s just a couple of years ago, we have now reached our 50th Costa Coffee store at our Leicester North supermarket.

“This milestone shows how popular the brand is with our customers, whether they are enjoying a Costa coffee in-store or picking up lunch on the go while shopping with us.”

The retailer plans to open an additional 14 Costa Coffee stores at its supermarkets this year as part of the rollout.

In addition to the store estate, Costa Coffee operates over 1,500 Costa Express machines at Sainsbury’s stores and petrol stations.
