Asda rolls out digital shelf labels across all Express stores
Asda has completed the installation of electronic shelf-edge labels across its entire estate of Express convenience stores, marking a major milestone for the retailer.
According to the business, this technology has replaced the manual task of swapping out over 120k paper price tickets per week.
This will give staff members more time to help customers, improve product availability and maintain store standards.
Additionally, shoppers will be able to access more ingredient and allergen information on products, including bakery items.
The retailer has installed over 1.2m electronic shelf labels (ESLs) across its convenience stores in partnership with Vusion, Renovotec and HL Display.
Matt Harrison, director – Asda Express central operations, said: “Completing the rollout of electronic shelf edge labels across our entire Express estate is a major milestone.

“By removing manual pricing tasks, we’re freeing up time for colleagues to focus on serving customers and keeping store standards high. It’s another example of how we’re modernising our stores to improve the shopping experience for customers.”
Asda introduced Vusion’s new 2.6 electronic shelf edge label, which gives shoppers a better-quality screen and makes reading easier for employees and customers.
The retailer is currently testing shelf-edge availability cameras in five of its larger main estate stores, prior to a wider launch which is planned in the coming months.
The cameras constantly monitor shelves and identify gaps, low stock levels and products which were placed in the wrong location.
The supermarket retailer is ramping up its technology investments after recently reporting signs of improvement within its most recent financial results.
