Fairfields Farm plots major expansion as it celebrates 20 years
Fairfields Farm is planning to more than double its production capacity over the next three years as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The Essex-based producer is preparing to expand its factory and warehousing facilities to support further growth, alongside investment in new on-site offices and product development.
Founded in October 2006 by husband-and-wife team Laura and Robert Strathern, Fairfields Farm has grown from a small producer into a nationally stocked crisp brand, securing more than 80 industry awards.
The business, based in Wormingford near Colchester, grows its own potatoes before cooking, seasoning and packing its crisps on-site.
Having invested in a purpose-built production facility in 2012, the company has more than doubled its capacity over the past four years and is now targeting further expansion.
Fairfields Farm commercial director Tash Jones said: “Twenty years in, we are still growing potatoes and making crisps in our factory, and that’s what our retail and foodservice partners buy into.
“From our first listing with the East of England Co-op to crisps served at 35,000 feet on Ryanair flights, our journey has been driven by investment in both our farm and factory.
“We have already more than doubled our capacity in the last four years and we’re expecting to more than double it again in the next three.”
The brand, which offers eight core crisp flavours alongside limited-edition ranges, is also investing in consumer-led innovation.
Its ‘Secret Crisp Committee’ attracted more than 1,000 applications in its first year and helped develop Cajun Barbecue, the company’s first ridge-cut crisp, launched as a limited edition for summer 2026.
Feedback from its latest consumer panel will inform another limited-edition flavour planned for 2027.
Meanwhile, Fairfields Farm has moved into new offices at its Essex site, bringing teams together as it looks to support further expansion and local employment.
Co-founder Robert Strathern said: “Twenty years and more than 80 awards later, we’re still doing what we love.
“We’re incredibly proud of our brilliant team and grateful to our stockists and everyone who’s bought a bag along the way.”
The company’s crisps are currently stocked in East of England Co-op and Chelmsford Star stores, alongside independent retailers, farm shops, pubs and cafés across the UK.
