Carlsberg revives ‘If Carlsberg Did…’ campaign after decade-long absence

News

Carlsberg has brought back its ‘If Carlsberg Did…’ advertising platform for the first time since 2016 as part of a major summer campaign.

Running from 20 July to 31 August, the campaign will span video on demand, online video, paid social, experiential activity and creator partnerships, alongside an exclusive partnership with LADbible Group.

The Fold7-created campaign updates the brewer’s long-running slogan by focusing on common British summer frustrations and presenting humorous Carlsberg-branded solutions.

It will also extend across the UK grocery, convenience and wholesale channels during July and August under the banner: ‘If Carlsberg did summer, we’d keep it chilled’.

Retail activity will include feature displays, bespoke free-standing display units and shopper promotions offering Carlsberg merchandise, including green bucket hats featuring the brand’s white hop leaf logo.

The campaign comprises three main creatives, supported by experiential activations across the UK.

One will see Carlsberg launch a mobile bar inspired by a traditional ice cream van, which will serve chilled pints of Carlsberg Danish Pilsner in parks and other summer locations.

Its ‘Goal Posters’ activation will turn billboards into physical football goals, while the brewer will also deploy professionally trained hawks as ‘Seagull Security’ at selected coastal pubs and seaside locations.

Carlsberg Britvic chief marketing officer Munnawar Chishty said: “Bringing back ‘If Carlsberg Did…’ after 10 years is a massive moment for us. It is one of the most iconic, recognisable and beloved advertising taglines in British history.

“For decades, it represented our unique take on ‘access to the best’ – identifying frustrating, relatable consumer barriers and resolving them with Carlsberg’s trademark wit and confidence.

“In 2026, we’re giving this legendary platform a modern glow-up to solve some of the UK’s most common summer pain points.”

The tagline has continued to attract almost 20,000 global social media mentions over the past year, according to the brewer.

Carlsberg said the relaunch represents a wider strategic move for the business, with ‘If Carlsberg Did…’ set to become the brand’s long-term global creative platform. It will be adapted for individual international markets using local humour and cultural references.
