Hello Kitty celebration cake lands in Tesco in UK first
Finsbury Food Group has launched its first-ever Hello Kitty celebration cake, available exclusively in Tesco stores nationwide.
The cake, created in partnership with Sanrio, marks the first time the iconic character has appeared in Finsbury’s licensed celebration cake portfolio.
Launching from 1 June, the product features pink vanilla sponge layered with jam and white filling, finished with piped frosting, sprinkles and a Hello Kitty design.
The cake weighs 0.89kg and serves up to 16 people, with Finsbury targeting birthdays, sleepovers and family celebrations.
The launch is also the first time the bakery giant’s development team has used pink vanilla sponge in a character-licensed cake.
Finsbury said the move comes as licensed celebration cakes continue to perform strongly across UK retail, with character-led products remaining a popular choice for birthdays and family occasions.
The group said Hello Kitty’s appeal across both younger shoppers and nostalgic adult fans created an opportunity to bring the global brand into the supermarket cake aisle.
Finsbury Food Group brand manager Andrew Scott said: “We’re always looking for ways to bring more creativity into the celebration cake category, and this launch felt like the perfect match.
“Hello Kitty is an iconic character, so we wanted to create a cake that was just as memorable as the brand itself.
“With its vibrant pink sponge, the cake is designed to stand out on shelf and add a little extra joy to celebrations. We’re confident it’ll be a big hit with Hello Kitty fans of all ages.”
The Tesco-exclusive launch adds to Finsbury’s expanding licensed cake range, as grocers look to tap demand for branded celebration products that can drive impulse purchases around family occasions.
