Waitrose has increased the price of its meal deal to £5.50, for a drink, main meal and snack, a jump of 10 per cent.

The John Lewis Partnership grocer only began offering a lunch-time deal in August 2023, with the price remaining the same up until now.

“Our meal deal remains exceptional value for money – offering a wide variety of lunch options prepared with the quality ingredients you’d expect from Waitrose, and following the industry leading welfare standards we insist on,” a spokesperson said.

As supermarkets and takeaway chains face growing costs, Waitrose is simply the latest to pass increases onto customers.

Tesco implemented a widespread 25p price hike across its meal deal ranges in August 2025. For Clubcard members, the standard meal deal price increased to £3.85, up from £3.60. For those consumers not part of Tesco’s long-standing loyalty programme, the price rose to £4.25.

Furthermore, the premium offering (which features Tesco Finest sandwiches, sushi, or salads) also saw a 50p increase, shifting to £5.50 for Clubcard users and £6.00 for regular shoppers.

Sainsbury’s quietly increased the cost of its standard lunchtime multi-buy option last year. The price rose by 20p to £3.95, and marked its second price adjustment within a 12-month period.

High street favorite Greggs has increased its meal deal prices twice within the last year, with the most recent changes taking effect in May 2026.

Greggs breakfast deal, which features a standard roll and drink combo, increased to £3.25 up from £3.15. This follows an earlier rise from £2.95. Its lunchtime deal saw a 10p increate to £4.25 and the “Big Deal” Bundle jumped to £5.25.
