Greggs steps up expansion hunt as it targets more new stores in 2026
Greggs is stepping up its property search as it looks to maintain the pace of its UK expansion.
The retailer, which added 100 new shop locations in 2025, said it is now seeking leasehold units with a minimum size of 900 sq ft as it looks to secure its next wave of openings.
Its latest requirements span a broad mix of locations, including high streets, shopping centres and travel hubs, as well as retail parks, roadside sites, industrial areas and business parks.
Greggs said it will also consider opportunities within supermarkets and suburban parades, while continuing to grow its drive-through estate.
The renewed site search comes as Greggs targets around 120 net new stores in 2026, despite reporting a decline in profits last year.
The bakery chain, which now operates around 2,700 shops, said in March that it still sees scope for more than 3,000 UK sites in the longer term, supported by what it described as a strong pipeline of attractive opportunities.
As part of that next phase of growth, Greggs is also set to trial its smaller ‘bitesize Greggs’ format, aimed at helping the retailer trade in locations where space is more limited.
