German discounter Aldi has lowered prices across hundreds of items, with savings across a range of essentials, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples and personal care products.

The move reflects an investment of more than £22m in lowering prices, and reductions include Red Lentils down to 99p from £1.39, Porridge Sachets for 79p from 99p and Organic Steel Cut Oats at £1.99 from £2.19.

Other products have been reduced by 50p, including No Beef Flank Steak and Vegetable Pieces & Meatballs.

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “We know that customers are continuing to feel the pressure of the weekly shop, which is why we’re constantly reviewing prices across our range to ensure we offer our customers the lowest possible prices.

“These latest price reductions cover hundreds of everyday products, including a number of healthy options, and form part of our ongoing commitment to delivering great value without compromising on quality.”

The move comes as the retailer revealed a ‘discounter gap’ which leads to families across the UK paying an extra £2,437 more per year due to a lack of access to an Aldi store.
