Lidl launches hybrid meat range as it targets protein-conscious shoppers
Lidl is launching a new range of hybrid meat products combining British meat with plant protein.
The discounter’s new High-Protein Meat range will land in stores from 18 September, with products containing pea protein alongside meat to deliver at least 20 per cent more protein than traditional alternatives.
Prices will start from £1.99, with the range including High Protein Cumberland Sausages, High Protein Beef Mince Five Per Cent Fat at £4.79 and a 10 per cent fat version priced at £3.99.
Burgers, meatballs and pork sausages will also feature in the line-up.
Lidl said the hybrid approach would allow it to tap into the trend of meat replacement while also increasing the proportion of plant-based protein within shoppers’ diets.
Lidl GB chief commercial officer Richard Bourns said price remained a key barrier for consumers looking to buy high-protein products and said the new range was designed to combine meat and plant protein without pushing up prices significantly.
It also forms part of Lidl’s broader push to rebalance the types of protein it sells.
It has committed to increasing plant-based protein to 25 per cent of the total volume of protein sold by 2030, up from 18 per cent in 2024.
It has also pledged to grow the overall proportion of plant-based foods it sells as part of its healthy and sustainable diets strategy.
Lidl said the hybrid range would support those ambitions by allowing shoppers to increase their intake of plant protein without switching entirely away from meat.
