Sainsbury’s is opening a new flagship store in Wynyard, County Durham, on 13 November as part of the expansion of its bricks-and-mortar estate.

The new 29,000 sq ft store will feature Sainsbury’s range of fresh food, fruit and veg, food-to-go and kitchen staples.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s chief property and procurement officer said: “We’re on a mission to ensure that great food is within reach for everyone, everywhere. This year, through our largest investment in store expansion in over a decade, we’re bringing more choice, convenience and quality to more communities across the UK. We’re very excited to be opening our newest Sainsbury’s supermarket yet in Wynyard in time for Christmas, and we’re now putting the finishing touches on it – we can’t wait to welcome everyone in-store on Thursday.”

Additionally, the new supermarket will feature an Argos in-store to allow shoppers to buy the retailer’s products while picking up groceries.

The Argos will also feature Sainsbury’s range of Habitat and Tu Clothing brands for customers to order and pick up online for click and collect.

The new location has created over 110 new jobs through a recruitment process to join the new store team.

Peter Conwell, Sainsbury’s Wynyard store manager, added: “I’m delighted to be leading the fantastic new team at our Wynyard supermarket, where we will join Sainsbury’s mission to make good food joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day. We’re currently working hard to get everything ready for opening day, and after that, we’re really looking forward to playing an integral part in the local community for years to come.”
