Tesco has announced a festive recruitment drive for over 28,500 temporary workers to assist during the busy Christmas shopping season.

The jobs at the retailer’s Superstores and Extra stores will involve picking orders, working at checkouts or restocking.

Ela Golab, Tesco group people services director, said: “With the busy Christmas period ahead, we are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip.

“No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What’s more, no experience is necessary, just the right attitude.”

The announcement comes as discount retailer Aldi has announced a major recruitment drive for over 4500 roles for the festive season in September.

Sainsbury’s also launched a nationwide drive for 19,000 seasonal roles in October ahead of the busy holiday season.
